♠ Emmett James Martin was born on November 11th, 1983. This makes him a grand total of 24 years old. He's the second child to Connor and Leslie. He has an older sister Daniela, and a younger sister Tairie. While Emmett is not close to Daniela at all, Rie and him where joined at the hip whiling growing up.
♠ His parents met on the set of a movie, and were both successful in their own rights. This meant that Emmett never wanted for much materialistically while growing up. However, emotionally, the boy was a bit of a mess for most of his childhood. Daneila was so perfect. Rie was so pretty and confident even when it was going against their mother's wishes. Emmett suffered through the typical 'I'm not as good as my siblings' moments that many middle children go through. He was not good at school (it wasn't until forth grade that they discovered the reason for that was that Emmett is severely dyslexic, the reason why he had trouble learning and following along in school). He could play sports decently, but his heart was never really in it. By sixth grade, he had the sinking suspicion he wasn't like most boys at all, but that was something he kept to himself for a long time.
♠ His sister Rie was probably the only thing that kept him from turning into another depressed rich kid. When he was eight, and she six, he taught her how to skate board, something he was always decent at, but something she quickly became phenomenal at. AT first, he was secretly jealous, watching his sister attack raps with a fearlessness he couldn't muster, but then he slowly came to accept that she had something in her that allowed her to do that, he was just too cautious. After that, he was truly her number one fan, and remains so to this day. He tries to make it to all her competitions, and usually screams himself hoarse rooting for her. Emmet himself gave up skating when he was in 10th grade and broke his right wrist falling on a half pipe. He was terrified for 6 weeks, thinking he really screwed up his only real talent in life -- art. After the cast came off, it was clear there was no permanent damage, and he still can draw/write with his left hand, just nto as well. He hasn't been back on a skateboard since then.
♠ Emmett and Rie were the Bonnie and Clyde of the neighborhood, growing up. Emmett maintains that they weren't bad kids, just bored kids. Aside from one 'accidentally' broken window, they didn't do much permanent damage. They were just everywhere, and in a lot of people's hair.
♠ He could always draw, but it wasn't until junior high that Emmett really got into his art. For a kid that could barely pass his regular classes except gym and band (Emmett picked up the saxophone, at his mother's insistence that all her kids learn an instrument), Emmett really excelled in art. He liked to draw and paint he most, sculpture was never really his friend. By ninth grade, he even convinced his dad to let him make a studio for himself up in the loft over the garage.
♠ In tenth grade, Emmett succumbed to the pressures and started dating a girl. Their relationship was close, and he did love her, it was difficult for him to take the relationship to the next level, the sexual level. After six months, he broke it off, feeling like the relationship was unfair, and a lie. He didn't tell her that, of course, not for a long time. In fact, the only one that Emmett admitted his sexual orientation to while he was in high school was Rie.
♠ High school was a challenge, that Emmett didn't always think he'd make it through. The family higher tutors, and that helped some. In the end, he graduated, but it wasn't with honors like his older sister. It was by the skin of his teeth. He was proud, though, since he doubted most kids he walked with at graduation had to work as hard. After high school, he went to art school, just to do something, and much against his parents wishes. They wanted a more 'practical education' for Emmett, but after making it clear, they finally gave in and helped him get into The Art Institute of Boston.
♠ Emmett graduated from AIB two years ago, with a BA in Illustration. In those four years, he came out to his family (by bringing home a boy for Christmas his sophomore year-- Rie helped him get the courage to do that). Since graduation, he's been dating on and off, and remained in Longport, mostly because it was familiar and he didn't want to leave his family, however alienated he feels from them most of the time.
♠ Emmett works as a freelance children's book illustrator, and does other projects on the side, including commissioning tattoo designs (his first design was Rie's sleeve) He has his own place now, and made sure it was a two bedroom so he has the space to paint. He has a puggle puppy named Icarus, that he adores.
